Being Unabashed and Extravagant Love

In our standard paradigm of Corporate America, we don’t often associate work productivity or business results with being in a loving or connected space. Nonetheless when office communications and teams are not built on this foundation, then the unspoken disconnect between leadership, management and staff can generate rifts in hand-offs, deliverables completion and employee retention. Many human resources studies would attest to higher employee loyalty ratings at companies where the team members express feelings of appreciation, satisfaction and alignment with their personal values.

My executive business coach asked me, “When do you feel loved?” I mused over various descriptions such as when:

  • My mom makes a special meal because she knows it’s one of our favorites
  • My husband tells me to close my eyes and hold out my hands because he has a surprise for me
  • I’m singing anthems and hymns in church
  • My sister leaves silly voicemails of ridiculously made up tunes that have one-word lyrics (usually “Poopy”)
  • I sit in silent meditation and am engulfed in a space of gratitude

In all cases, I feel most loved when I am first connecting with my inner self and then connecting with others.  When I am not connected, then I find that I respond by being lower energy, less motivated and not “on” my game.

Last Sunday’s sermon at All Saints’ Episcopal Church , Rev. Licia Affer challenged the congregation to being “unabashed, extravagant love” in the world.  I’ll take this a step further and specifically apply it to three actionable solutions we can exercise in business in turning around the economy…

Be Unabashed and Extravagant Love when you:

  • Acknowledge co-workers, vendors and clients for their contribution to you – in the moment that they occur or afterwards
  • Reflect on and design how projects can be accomplished as a community – without  competitiveness driving apart harmony
  • Encourage the development of each person’s passion, gifts and talents to manifest and attract opportunities

If stuck or frustrated, take a moment to breathe, re-connect and return to being love and loved.  You will soon witness everything falls into place in perfect order as if by magic.  Remember that it was not a coincidence, but that you created it and can continue to create when centered.  Namaste  :)
