Changing Hands Bookstore

Spring cleaning has brought about a windfall in the form of great condition, practically new books.  Discovered dormant, packed in storage boxes, I’ve revived these prizes of written knowledge to share out in the world with others through Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe.  Despite all my best intentions that I might actually re-read them again in the future (as in someday, maybe… yeah, right) giving them the freedom to be loved and experienced by someone else in the meanwhile feels much more rewarding than allowing them to collect dust any longer.

A locally owned treasure since 1974 (we’re one week shy of its 36th birthday coming up next Thursday!) this independent bookstore is known for book signings by famous and infamous authors, supporting charities and service organizations, and making Tempe a stronger community.  So far I’ve made two trips this week to their in-store used book trading station. Don’t know how it works? It’s really quite easy and fantastic!

Based on the condition of your books and their shelf sexiness, Changing Hands determines what will be able to sell and estimates its re-sale price. You get 50% of that total sticker price as in-store credit.  If you want to save up credits for a later purchase, they can charge up a nifty tortoise and hare CHB gift card with the amount.  The gift card never expires and never goes out of style. Besides books, there are so many cards, journals and wonderful gift ideas that it’s never hard to spend it either!
